EMDR Therapy in Didsbury, Manchester

A structured psychological therapy that may help people process distressing or traumatic experiences.

Overview

EMDR is a structured psychological therapy used to work with distress linked to traumatic or overwhelming experiences. It is offered only when the approach fits the person’s presentation and readiness.

Who it helps

EMDR may be considered for PTSD and some other difficulties connected with distressing memories. It is not automatically the right approach for every experience of trauma or anxiety.

Assessment & treatment

Preparation and assessment come before memory-processing work. The therapist will discuss current stability, coping resources, relevant history and what the process may involve before deciding whether to proceed.

What to expect

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation alongside carefully guided attention to aspects of a memory. You remain awake and in control, and the pace can be adjusted or paused.
