Physiotherapy for Shoulder Pain in Didsbury, Manchester
Shoulder pain can make reaching, lifting, dressing, sleeping or work difficult. Physiotherapy can assess movement, strength and activity demands to guide individual rehabilitation.
Overview
Shoulder pain can affect reaching overhead or behind the body, lifting, dressing, sleep, work and exercise. Symptoms may be recent or persistent and do not always fit one simple pattern.
Symptoms
People may notice pain during particular movements, reduced range, weakness, stiffness, aching at rest or difficulty tolerating load through the arm. The location and behaviour of pain can differ considerably.
Causes
Possible contributors include a recent injury, changes in training or workload, irritation of muscles or tendons, joint stiffness and other health factors. Assessment is used to understand the presentation rather than assuming a particular diagnosis.
Assessment
Physiotherapy assessment may consider shoulder and neck movement, strength, load tolerance, relevant health history and the functional tasks that are difficult or important to you.
How we help
Rehabilitation may include tailored movement, progressive strengthening, load-management advice and support with returning to everyday activities. Further investigation or onward referral may be appropriate for some presentations.
When to seek medical advice
Seek prompt medical assessment after significant trauma, for an obvious deformity, sudden inability to move the arm, rapidly worsening weakness or numbness, or shoulder pain accompanied by chest pain or acute illness.
