Therapy for Depression in Didsbury, Manchester

Depression can affect mood, motivation, sleep, concentration, relationships and the ability to engage with everyday life.

Overview

Depression can affect how a person feels, thinks and engages with everyday life. It may develop gradually or follow periods of stress, loss, illness or other significant experiences.

Symptoms

Symptoms can include persistent low mood, loss of interest, reduced motivation, tiredness, sleep or appetite changes, self-criticism, hopelessness and difficulty concentrating or connecting with others.

Causes

Depression rarely has one cause. Biological factors, life events, relationships, isolation, health, stress and patterns of thinking or behaviour may all contribute in different ways.

Assessment

Therapy begins by understanding your current difficulties, their impact, relevant history, existing support and what you hope may change. Risk and safety are discussed directly where needed.

How we help

Psychotherapy can provide space to explore experiences and patterns, while CBT may focus more directly on links between thoughts, activity and mood. The approach should reflect your needs and preferences.

When to seek medical advice

If you feel at immediate risk of harming yourself or someone else, or cannot keep yourself safe, seek urgent help through emergency services or an appropriate crisis service. This website is not an emergency service.
